scifijungle i've heard a lot of people talk about these two genres but aren't they the same?

I'm gone sending you outer space...to find another race...

Tyrant Well... yes and no. A lot of people will say they're the same thing. The term trancecore was first used to describe the trancey sounds being introduced by people like sharkey, dj energy, marc smith, etc...

But the term freeform came about because people objected to the term trancecore. Many freeform tracks, while keeping the general structure of trance, didn't sound trancey at all. Freeform is then the more "correct" term for most of what's being pumped out on labels like Nu Energy, XY^2, Stompin Choons, Bonkerz, etc...

I dunno. Both refer to the same genre, really. But then i'd call some of Hixxy's stuff on B Trax trancecore because of how it sounds.

I hope this clears up the confusion instead of adding to it :)

Elation they are exactly the same thing.

first the style started as HARD DANCE
then it got dubbed as TRANCECORE (the slang term that we werent comfortable with, i know ive never really liked that term.)
now it has the name FREE FORM.

and thats a fact.

sorry, but i dont agree (Tyrant) that you think HIXXY is TRANCECORE. it is trancey hardcore, but it still has a different sound than stuff by fury, eclipse, sharky, and energy.

(:(:happyhardcoresmiles:):)
Tyrant hehe
thats just my own personal spin on it
most would say it's the exact same thing... but the whole reason the term freeform came about was to eliminate the association with trancey sounds.
anyways... people can call it what they want. it's all just hardcore :)

StrifeII no theyre not. Freeform has a much higher bpm (170-180) than trancecore (140-160) Freeform also tends to have relaxing breaks then a fill then goes full out & it sounds amazing.

Elation i gotta step back in and say somthing... if you...Midway_raver...think that MARK EG is FREEFORM...then why do i own a CD called CHEMICAL GENERATION - A FREEFORM HARDCORE EXPERIENCE, with producers such as:
steve johnson, cortex, citadel of kaos, d zyne, fury, helix, teckno dred, druid, ufo, sharky, eclipse. all compiled and mixed by: fury and energy. hmmm...sounds like a TRANCECORE line up dont it??? MARK EG is not freeform. the last time i saw him, he spun stuff like LIBERATOR/STAY UP FOREVER, witch sounds like droning techno trance.
FREEFORM started as HARD DANCE, and was givin the slang term TRANCECORE in the meantime.
i love this style of hardcore, cause i love it all. music that makes you f**kin move.
now lets add NU ENERGY. uh ho!!!, another element...

"k, whatever...i grow tired of trying to classify music...its all HARDCORE and its all GOOD. nuff said. fer me anyways. lol "

for real this time.

Tyrant i never knew mark eg to have spun freeform
heard him spin hard trance, hard tech, trance, some nrg.... but never freeform
