phatbreakz Hiya - I'm in a little dilema. I've recently gotten back to mixing and I need to make a third tape/cd. What I was wondering is - what format should I come out with - mixtape or cd? For mix cd - I might have to go the "cheap" route. Which means - recording a set, getting it mastered, burning it on a cd, slaping a art-ful sticker on top and make a phat panel card (j-card). I can't spend 1000 dollars right now to make a silk-screened cd at the moment :(

The tape route would involve me shelling out 250 dollars to get 100 tapes with name, contact info etc. printed on them and mastered, and of course printing up a nice j-card.

So which one's do you guys think is better?

DJ Mouse try do both if you can mate, some ppl will want a tape, others a cd.
but remember to keep a master copy of it on a cd in case you'll need it,coz tapes are more likely to screw up, i mean, put them next to a magnet and they've had it!!

but if you can't do both, then definitely cd

Brian K make the cds the cheap way, go buy yourself a cd burner and diy
sure it will take a lil longer but hey, it's worth the extra time to save yourself a couple hundred bucks

"If Yoda so smart in Force is, why words in right order he put not?"
plasma burning them yourself is the way to go. find a graphic artist to design your labels, then buy a cheap label kit. it ends up costing about $2 per cd. give half of them away, then sell the other half for $10 to cover your costs. this is the low budget way I use.

It's ok to be drunk before noon.
DJ Tempest i say burning em is the best way to go..its not only cheaper, but most people have cd players in their cars...

dj-efeks definately cd, its just so much more quality, and really cheaper these days, plus if people want it on tape they just get the cd and dub it =>

Elation yeah, if youre recording onto your computer and have a nice recording program, then you can record sweet digital sets. tapes are koul too cause their usually for the car, but id focus on cds fer sure. if you buy a cd labeling kit, they come with software to set it all up for you printer too. so that can keep your costs low as well.

aznwasian CDs all the way, especially if you can make it so even though it's a continous set, you can skip to a song (Like tha H2bHC series). The quality is better and it is more professional looking.

Elation yeah, does anyone have a program that can split tracks or a cd burning program that doesnt put 2 second pauses inbetween tracks? i actually have the splitter program, but my burning program wont disable the 2 second pauses. does anyone have an answer? or any links for programs?

(:(:happyhardcoresmiles:):)
Lixx What program do you use to burn? I've used Easy CD Creator and now Nero and they both had the option. It's called Disc-at-once, eliminates any space in between tracks, but you gotta make sure there isn't any space left on the tracks. Just for my knowledge what do you use to split mp3s, I haven't found one that I really like yet?

Elation this is a link for the program i used for splitting tracks.

http://download.cnet.com/downloads/1,10150,0-10000-103-0-1-7,00.html?tag=srch&qt=track+splitter&cn=&ca=10000

i use Nero as well and i do burn disc-at-once, but i cracked the demo version, so it wouldnt expire. maybe thats why i cant disable the pauses?

i need a bought copy i guess. damn.

Brian K use sound forge to split up the tracks, by far one of my fav programs =)

"do not dream, you dreamed about me"
DJ Mouse sound forge is good to use but you need a lot of space on your hard drive to split the tracks, unless you cut and paste to new instead of copy and paste but it takes forever that way

DJ Mouse In Da House!!!
Elation yeah, i use Sound Forge too, i guess i should start lookin through the manual. maybe id learn a thing or two. lol.
