Fraud From what I have seen when walking through your casual Sam Goody or fyi or Barnes&Noble, I see various choices in the 'techno' section. Such as deiselboy, george acosta, dj micro, dj irene, ltj bukem, christopher lawrence, dj hyper, etc. Would anyone any of you consider the Cd's put onto these shelves to be mainstream techno artists, or did they become very popular very quickly through a popular label, or are they artists that were very lucky in this business and had the amazing oppurtunity to display their CD on a shelf for the casual citizen to purchace?

Example: Do you think deiselboy was lucky when a record label found him? Or is he just very talented at what he does? Just wondering what you guys think.

HardCore Latina Funny you mention that. I've noticed the samething everytime I pass the 'Techno' section. I now see Cd's of Tiesto, Paul Van Dyke, and etc. They're not what I call mainstream material but they've made it across. When it comes to the Electornic field, stores just mainly sell whatever is popular at the clubs or radios stations. Ilove shopping at the import section os certain underground stores, you always find a nice new sound. For the record mainstream trance blows

[[Come into my dream..let me show you where I've been...]]
Fraud most definetely, trance is kind of lacking as far as quality these days. I mean when I bought George Acosta's AM/PM edition, i was bloown away. but then everything after that kind of went downhill. Then i heard some Armin Van Burren, and i was like whooaa.. Then I lost interest. lol. BUt then my brother introduced me to Gabriel & Dresden... ANd let me tell you, they know whats up! lol.

And then, for example, stuff like "This is the noize 2" comes out into mainstream stores. Now that is awesome for anyone looking for that "nice new sound" as you say. It's just always interesting what those kind of stores carry, variety wise.

HardCore Latina Oh yeah, Most definitely. Gabriel & Dresden are pretty dope. They always mix other songs nicely, they don't over kill it. I hope they hit NY soon, they'll be worth ot see in person. I think Armin Van Burren mixes other artists tracks better than what he produces, but I do like a few of his songs 'Burned with Desire' is one of my fave. I'm a former Paul Van Dyke fan, I love his live sets more than his cd's, does that make sense? lol
Try and find Wolfshiem- Wundervoll (Blank and Jones remix) I heard that live when I saw PVD and let me tell you....OWNED! :)

[[Come into my dream..let me show you where I've been...]]
Brian K most of the things in the "techno" section aren't even techno...they're house or crappy trance. hence why I don't shop at those stores for "techno" =P

the only things I would consider "mainstream" are the trance crap and you're b96 style of house...I'm kind of shocked that dj irene is in there, I figured that would be too hard for people =P

Anything is too hard for the ppl of this country, lol
Just imagine shopping at any clothing store and someone plays one of the Bonkers CD...imagine everyones reaction..LOL I'd love to be there to observe

[[Come into my dream..let me show you where I've been...]]
Fraud haha yes. That would be something to witness.
And Yes i agree, I guess you could say America, in general, is very sheltered when it comes to the knowledge of 'techno'. Or knowing the actual difference between techno, house, breaks, hardcore, dnb, trance, etc.
It will prolly be a long while till the USA becomes as knowledgable about the scene as, for example, the UK.
But until then, I will still walk into my local Virgin Megastore, and wait for that Bonkerz 15.

tunnelrush if the US jocked Scott Brown as much as they do Christopher Lawrence. Id be able to buy cds with out an 'import tax' from overseas.

I did enjoy hardhouse/progressive house from DJ Irene but the horrible truth behind that is i would like only about 4-5 songs on each cd. ( i bought three total)

im still waitin to see "This is Noize" on some shelf here in the states. Im keepin my eyes peeled.

Mainstream trance sucks only becuase i think its just way too slow. im sure there are good dj's but i wouldnt know cuz i just listen to more styles of hardcore now. :)

"First you didnt want me to buy the horse, now you want me to take it back?! Make up your mind!"
Brian K hell I was suprised enough a couple years back when they were playing fah fah frolic on the pa at circuit city =P

"we'll delete the weak"
Fraud hah! I'd like to meet the manager of that store! dno why...

Sean Apollo I don't mind buying like trance cds and stuff from your local store, but if there was a hardcore cd to come out I would want to buy it from a store that supports hardcore, not some big wallmart or some store that really does not even know who scott brown or hixxy are.

YAY MAKINA!
TypeR but if you needed a fix of good hardcore songs with the shittiest commercial release mixing anabolic frolic is your man!

don't stand and stare, just kick your legs in the air
Teknikolored i found that Virgin records has a pretty phat techno selection from trance and house to happyhardcore

I got my bonkers 12 from there for like 20 bucks.

but they mostly only carry bonkers.....

i havn't even seen trance or any type of electronica at wal-mart and stuff around here, theres only like hip-hop and rock. people down here down know crap about techno (southern cali). Except the best buy has a pretty small dance section, mostly tiesto and whatnot, but i did find my noizeII there

Ravers dont fall, they drop, trip and roll
Fraud yes, Virgin Megastore has nice selections, Cd's AND vinyl. But they have better selection in CD variety than vinyl.

haha, exactly. But NOTHING beets Oakenfold. He IS the Britney Spears of techno music (other than Moby). It's pretty bad. I mean, I've seen Oakenfold's MUSIC VIDEO on MTV a few times. And hmm.. that song from Halo 2 sounded familiar.. OH yup! Oakie made a few songs for that game as well. I mean Moby seems like a nice guy, but they take money way to seriously.

Brian K I think it's about time moby got money for what he's been doing. he's been putting out quality stuff since '91...unlike most trance artists =P

Fraud Is moby's stuff mostly trance or something else?

HardCore Latina Moby used to make awesome tracks...too bad that went down the drain like everything else. My favorite track from Moby would have to be "Feeling so real" Don't even get me started on Paul Okie...lol

[[Come into my dream..let me show you where I've been...]]
Fraud haha, yea its crazy how okie made songs for Halo 2, i mean that's pretty dang mainstream right there. But another artist that i believe actually has some genious talent behind him is BT. He's been doin' stuff with JC chasez from Nsync, but he really knows how to work his music. I've also heard bt's "simply being loved" track on some of vh1's and mtv's reality shows and 'cribs' shows. It's crazy how electronic music sneaks in there into mainstream tv and radio... What will happen next

[[Come into my dream..let me show you where I've been...]]
Cyberpunk Tiesto, Van Dyk, Moby, Fatboy Slim are all popular in the electronic section and it must be because of their sucess on their songs released on the radio. I dunno maybe its just cuz people like it over hardcore.lol. Oh can't forget Paul Oakenfold he's good too!
