Heist The recent Atomic Nrg event has led me to be a bit less critical of the recent rash of hard house beats being used in hardcore. Up until thief's set, it was a pretty ordinary night of hard house/nrg/hard trance with nothing surprising me. Thief's set was marginally better than the hardcore set by fenix which was the reason i came to an all nrg event.

Its hard to describe but the way the NRG he was playing was produced seemed to get a whole lot more punch out of the speakers than even the best freeform fenix played. Hence although the breakdowns were predictable, the kick back in of the beat was much more satisfying and upfront than the hardcore fenix was playing although the psychoacoustics of fenix's tracks pooed all over anything Nrg just cause its hardcore.

Hard house/Nrg may suck, but they are doing what hardcore used to do in its prime...be the most upfront and hard style through production designed for being played out on big speakers. The drumloops seem more addictive than the oldskool breaks cause we've heard every break used 10000 times over...

I don't really like these tracks much but using Hard house style drums gives them a boost...

Now what we have to do is use hard drum and bass breaks to make hard house drums seem boring and pissy. Hard house buildups/melody/structure already make it seem pretty damn boring.
