ultraskool If you've listened to artists tracks like 'Ultra-Sonic' AKA Public Domain's CD "Hard Hop Superstars" you will notice they refer to a 'genre' known as "HardHop" . Just wondering if this is just a made-up genre or is it a real Electronic Dance genre? I just searched it up on Google and there's a group called HardHop Heathen. Basically it's a combination of HipHop sounds that's mixed in with some Deep Bass Electro-type music. Sounds cool anyways - this is the youtube vid i'm talking about:

Elipton Reminds me of Adam Freeland (mainly is Now and Them album).

Would we consider tracks like Mind Killer, HardHop?
Triquatra Eh, I think it falls under big beat / Breaks to be honest.

Here is a fun happy hardcore link? for you

Tom Colenbrander and Ype Wielinga

but they were also in a little known (at least in the UK) side project called Hed First, making that kind of big beat/breaks stuff:

Used to have the album on vinyl and it's quite confusing as you can play it at both 33 and 45 and it sounds perfectly fine at both, so I never knew if I was playing a song at the "right" speed! o.o
ultraskool Hi everyone who replied, thanks for the replies. You've shown me some 'breakbeat' type tracks from the likes of Adam Freeland, etc but haven't answered my question as to whether 'Hardhop' is a real genre or not? As for that track, "Too beautiful" by BLUEZONE , Triquatra, - I've never really fancied that tune. It's not even as good as "Faraway" by Pulpshock. LOL

I know there are similar Nu SKool Breaks artists like Ron D Core, Omar Santana , Rob G. etc but are they considered 'Hardhop'?
djDMS Short answer, no it's not a genre.

Any examples are just rap over a different genre.

I remember 'Hip-house' being a thing 30 years ago - but that was nothing more than Rap over a house/acid/whatever beat.
Triquatra Don't forget Handbag House!
ultraskool but there's this album by DJ Omar Santana called 'Tricked Out' and it says, "hardhop, acid and brutal beats'. So it is possibly a real/imagined genre? as for Handbag House, some people will argue with you til they're blue in the face that it IS a real genre. LOL
