i'm influenced by mid 90's freeform and the like. no interest in modern hardcore

I love 90's freeform and I'm sure plenty of others here do too.

There's no money in hardcore and relatively speaking there's barely anyone listening to it;
So whether you 'bother carrying on' should be entirely down to whether you enjoy making music or not.
I would have stopped making bonkers 7 hardcore yonks ago if I was making it on the basis of other people being interested ;)

money/fame and all that stuff is far from necessary or a purpose. an audience of anyone at all would be nice.
if nobody cares at all i'll stick to d&b, i mean bringing this stuff back is way beyond my means

Nailed it. Tbh, If you have to ask the question 'Should i carry on', then it probably means you shouldn't.

Personally I think it was partly to blame for the decline in popularity of hardcore as a whole. I reckon if you had access to sales figures for CD's back then, UD Vol 6 onwards, you'll see a rapid decline, as the music went that way. Slower, trancey, ****ing boring.

Thats not trancecore, that's just standard trance. And if sharkey pioneered it or not, (many say he did) he made it popular, I can remember the set he did in Kinetic and he said its something different it's trancecore, its the future.

though I'm not sure what Levzi means by saying there was "no freeform in the 90s, it was all trance"...I mean if you can't hear the difference between the Funky Breaks International/Nu Energy 90s freeform stuff and hard trance then I've no idea what to say. It'd be like trying to explain the difference between brie and port salut.
actually terrible example as brie is just nasty.
unless you're just talking about terminology. in which case sure the term 'freeform' wasn't around until 99ish...then trancecore term...what only lasted a year or so 1998ish, till 99 until it was redubbed freeform because a few people thought the term trancecore was stupid.
before that I just remember being it being labelled happy hardcore....alebit 'darker' happy hardcore..
but the term's fully backward compatible as there's a pretty clear distinction between the two; the german hard trance sound, and the UK freeform sound. At least to my ears.

I would call 1998 stuff 'Freeform'. If you have a listen to Ramos @ Fusion 'Dream Trip' from 1997, that's definitely Trancecore, not freeform. I'll try and get the set uploaded, as it doesn't seem to be anywhere online.

I'd use them interchangeably personally, but trancecore less, as I think it sounds silly ;) Maybe slap an "early" tag on there just for good measure.
or maybe vintage, vintage sounds good. vintage freeform.
