been trying to figure this thing out for the last week anyone able to give me any help at all?

am i on the right track or should i be doing it differently?

There is no "one right way" to master a track. Nor will 2 people end up with the same result after mastering the same track. From the sound of your clip I will say that I think for mastering at home, you are "on the right track". :)
