I want to know how the chords are done in a happy hardcore drop. I am not asking about chord progressions (I know plenty of those) but rather the synths themselves, especially how these songs do it.
I have Sylenth1, NI Massive, and a pirated copy of Serum available.

Two things are going on:

1. The synth sounds themselves are supersaws (which are totally achievable with the synths you mention)
2. They have sidechain compression applied to them.

Out of the 2 the trickier one is the compression, but basically you want to trigger the compression (duck the signal) at everydownbeat, perhaps using the kick drum. Play the chords out fully through the bars without "chopping" them rhythmically and let the compression do the syncopation for you.

some people use "lfo tool" for this, but personally, I've gotten better results using an actual compressor.

:)

Thanks for the reply by the way.

Is it really only supersaws? When I use supersaws for the chords, it either sounds washy, thin, or it sticks out too much (Pretty sure I'm making them wrong, though). What kind of processing is needed to produce the kind of supersaws in those songs?

Also, I know what sidechain compression is. (I use the Nicky Romero Kickstart plug-in most of the time, rather than actual compressors)

The only track in your list that may have felt different than a supersaw was "top of the world" after the intro. But then that pluck could be a supersaw with the filter partially closed with a bit of the mod envelope amount increased.

Just to know if we're on the same page, here's an example of my own work using sidechain compression and a supersaw made in Reason.

I use FL Studio and I can assure you that the Kickstart plug-in produces the same ducking-in effect.

I can do those particular chords ("trance supersaws" I believe they are called) though in "Top of the World," even with the filtering and all of that.

In the 2:10-2:33 portion of the song, those particular chords are absent and I can't hear any supersaws, baring the lead. Could you explain how that works?

For Nanobii sounding stuff there are a couple of tutorials on YouTube, one by himself too. Even if you don't have the same synth you can always adapt and play about to get your own twist :-)

The nanobii tutorial about supersaws are definitely useful; although, he does not have what I was looking for, which are the synths playing the chords during the drop.

On "Top of the world"?

sounds like a layered lead to me, with maybe some sidechain altering the levels of one or more. other than that I've exhausted my knowledge on the subject.

more like layering multiple synths together. Presets can be used... Future State Music has tutorials on their Youtube channel.

if you can see that.

this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dZOnjGRkRoA @ 1.51 is just cutoff automation

you won't be able todo it in FL, need reaper with full control of automation wave types or similar, FL automation clips and graphs are pointless

Having a further look into this post, it ocurred to me you (honeyblaster) are not asking about the chords but the sound of the lead, as it's the only other constant left.

If so, have you tried adding distortion to your leads? It doesn't need to be totally drenched in it. Just maybe a couple of layers with a bit of saturation may do the trick.
