I've always been into hardcore and DnB. But the first rule of interaction with a DnB head is, don't talk about Hardcore (unless you want to be smeared at)
I've been doing afew live streams recently on Facebook. DnB heads has got like 89k followers and the streams get well received.
Most Hardcore groups are lucky to have 1k followers and mixes on there don't do much at all.
Anyways, I've been digging out some old hard drives and playing alot of breakbeat hardcore lately (clsm, entity, Gavin G)
When I play these tunes to people they just assume it is DnB, until I say it's breakbeat hardcore, at which point they suddenly decide they don't actually like it and dismiss.
What I don't understand is, when DnB has a million subgenres, why is breakbeat hardcore under the Hardcore umbrella and not DnB?
This leads me to the question. Who the hell do you play a breakbeat hardcore set to? And where would you stream it?
I'm tempted to just do one in the DnB heads group and bring on the abuse. So much good, completely overlooked music. Must be a nightmare for the artists!

It's a blurry line for sure, but the "nu skool" breakbeat hardcore stuff of 02-present seemed to have more of a willingness to incorporate the more trancey elements from uk hardcore and more 'happy' elements from the vocals. The 'pure' drum n bass that was being released alongside it from the likes of London Electricity/Sub Focus/Fresh/High Contrast seems to be much more 'on the rails/by the book' straight forward Kick - Snare Kicksnare all the way through whereas the stuff dubbing itself 'breakbeat hardcore' was more....broken and loose(?)
The freeform of drum n bass, haha!

I wish I could get into breakbeat stuff but it puts me to sleep. I love a little here and there for a berakdown or maybe a song or two but I cant make myself listen to whole sets of it.

Some great Breakbeat Hardcore coming out at the moment, always seems to do well (compared to my other mixes anyway) when I upload a mix.

And here I thought I was stuck in the past... ffs, Eddie Sanchez and Gavin D made better breakbeat in 2010-2012...

See, going back on what I said earlier, I'd happily call the stuff that AK just posted breakbeat hardcore (or is it "new oldskool") rather than DnB. That's got a ravey edge that's far more true to the roots of "hardcore" music; what Gavin G etc were making in 2010-12 was far closer to DnB at the time (still good music mind!).
But DnB isnt as melodic as I remember Gavin G was around 2012? (my point is that AK's mix isn't as melodic or hardcore as the tracks from 2010-2012).
Maybe the few Gavin tracks I had were the ones that sticks out from what he usually made back then

As long as it?s mostly breakbeat I would class it as breakbeat, the exact style usually depends on what the artist was aiming for at the time, some prefer emulating the slower mainly breakbeat early 90?s sound while some prefer the 94/94 mixture of 4 beat over a breakbeat, there are also some tracks that sound more like early jungle, I love it all personally, good music is good music.
