This is the only point i wanted to debate from your otherwise completely helpful post.
I've found the low-mid range AMD cpu's are shit compared to Intel. And i'm not just talking about speed and performance. I've had 3 AMD cpus completely ****ing break (two low range, one mid range) and since i've moved religiously to intel, i've never had a cpu die. Maybe that's just my experience? But i'd never go back to AMD unless it was in the top end of the spectrum.
Gaz keep in mind, and overclocked CPU will lower it's life. Even the 'safe' overclocking that they release (turbo boost etc) will lower the lifespan of the cpu. I'm just saying.
Wow, I won't deny that that's a garbage experience. :( Were you able to get replacements or compensation?

Andy, i've used AMD processors for the past 10 years (probably 5-7 PC's), never had any issues with them. I dont overclock or do anything out of the ordinary. Your experience might have been caused by a shitty motherboard or a shitty fan. Might also be that you had bad luck or that AMD hates you.

Nvidia vs ATI AMD arguments are usually much, much worse. I've seen normally logical people go into pure fits of fanboy rage over it.
It's not like I was saying Intel was somehow bad either. It all depends on several factors including purpose and budget.

I only like NVIDIA over because of the open-source drivers, nothing more!

I only like Nvidia cause their cards have always worked while ATI's have always been crashing. Plus their control panel is better. Other then that i could use ATI's cards ...if my life dependent on it.
