Wait, does that mean DAT's mastered for vinyls actually clip this much? Is it because I dont understand how pressing works, or is that all just a load of bollox to excuse the overmastering?

Does Sharkey use these masters to play out? I understand with dats mastered for vinyl but what about the tunes which were not? Anything from Bonkers 8 onwards he used mainly cd's,when cdj's were starting to emerge. Surely he must still have his cd's? So just ripping them would have had better results wouldn't it?

I don't know about the mastering issues. The tracks are a little on the loud side but I'm not playing out a club/event so the quality of the tracks are ok for me. Although Its All Just Hardcore seems a little low. Not a lot of bass behind the kickdrum. Other than that. This bundle is what I have been wanting since the album was announced.

Between this bundle, the album and the last bundle I have all the unreleased Sharkey tracks I wanted from the album release.

Well except for original of Today's the Day I still want that. So everything else is just icing on the cake now.

I do have a question regarding Gravy Beatz. The versions in the bundle are different the one that Kevin Energy played in Hardcore Heaven 3. Was the one Kev played in HH3 another remix or an early draft and was eventually reworked for the final mixdown, similar to what DJ Kurt did for Ruff Rider Provider.

I thank you CDJay for dropping the bundle I wanted :)

"It's all just hardcore" sounds weird because the bass on the left and right audio tracks is in anti-phase; the picture below shows what I mean:

Upper trace is the left channel, lower is the right; you can see they're more or less equal but opposite, meaning they cancel each other out. Might sound OK on headphones, but it sounds really odd on speakers!

(incidentally if you sum the left/right channels to mono you get a mix of the track with no drums or bass, which is... interesting!)

Anyway, I'm really glad we're finally seeing some content! Many thanks CDJay+team for all your efforts

It's an easy fix. Just invert one of the channels in Audacity or Soundforge or whatever and it clears it right up. I messaged Jon about it a little while ago, he said they're on it.

One track that sticks out is Bonkers Anthem - it is far too loud and is clipping terribly, thought it was my laptop speakers initialy but running it through my proper soundcard and old Sony MDR-V700's it was even worse.

I'm all for having loud tracks but also think the trend of making them as loud as possible is detrimental to the track.

Just my thoughts and woulden't mind hearing what others think? I know I am old and 3 decades of abuse on my ears may have taken it's toll! ;)

Andy.

You're not alone with complaints about mastering but we're getting the best that they have, you have to consider that some of these are sourced from DATs mastered for vinyl.

I have every confidence that any niggles will be addressed as time goes on considering how big the project actually is!

Yes.

Really? I have a hard time believing that. In general recordings shouldn't clip like that at all (unless specifically desired for creative effect) and audio for vinyl is usually mastered quieter, based on the sources I have read. I think it's more likely that they let some idiot master them.

I am doing everything I can, but as noted this should have happened years ago and we are massively constrained by source quality. I said you'd get what we have, and I will constantly try to source and secure better versions going forward.

If I hadn't done this the way I have I promise it would all have died where it sat. I don't expect sympathy, but understanding would be helpful. Anyone sane would have folded December 2016.

It's an unreleased mix as featured on the album.
